The kite is more than two thousand-year-old invention. But it's still as exciting in the 21st century as it was when the Ming Dynasty folks in China flew them above the skies of the Forbidden City. And nowhere is the Kite flying festival as passionately celebrated as it is in Gujarat.
In the first-edition of Red Bull Kite Fight, Ahmedabad fliers thronged in numbers to show their passion. Taking this passion forward, Red Bull Kite Fight 2016 will now go to three cities – Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara – to find the most talented kite flyer in the country.

Red Bull Kite Fight 2016 will celebrate one of India’s most favourite festivals – Makarsankranti. The city qualifiers for 2016 edition of Red Bull Kite Fight will take place in Surat (9th January, 2016), Ahmedabad (10th January, 2016) and Vadodara (10th January, 2016). The event will follow the last-man-standing survival format. Each participant will be given 5 kites and he will have to survive till the very end and make sure his is the only kite in the sky at the end of the day.
Top three winners from each city will proceed to the Finals which will take place on January 13, 2016.
Three pre-final rounds will take place before the mega final. It’s format is as follow.
Pre-final 1: Ahmedabad Position 1 vs. Surat Position 2 vs. Vadodara Position 3
Pre-final 2: Ahmedabad Position 2 vs. Surat Position 3 vs. Vadodara Position 1
Pre-final 3: Ahmedabad Position 3 vs. Surat Position 1 vs. Vadodara Position 2
In the Final, the winners of Pre-final 1, Pre-final 2 and Pre-final 3 will compete for the mega title.
The winner of Red Bull Kite Fight 2016 Final will be titled the Red Bull Kite Fight Champion 2016 and will receive a special Red Bull Experience.

General Rules & Regulations
There is no entry fee to register for the event.
The participant is free to choose any of the three cities to register.
Once eliminated, the participant can no longer participate in the event.
Participants must be at least 14 years old as on January 1, 2016 (i.e. born on or before December 31, 2001). Kindly carry age proof with you.
Participants will need to report to the venue 30 minutes before the start of the event.
Snacks and drinks will be provided during the event. The last kite flying in the air will be crowned the winner.
Competition Rules & Regulations
Participants must not wait for more than 3 minutes between kites.
Participants have to carry their own threads. (No Chinese or any other non-competitive thread allowed)
Participants will compete in zones as designated by the organizers.
Participants will be provided with FIVE Red Bull branded event kites. Only these can be used during the event.
It's a survival event, anyone including outsiders, participants and Red Bull experts can cut your kite.
Once every hour, a RED kite will fly across the sky. If the participant's kite gets cut by this RED kite, the participant will be out of the competition irrespective of how many more kites are left with the participant. If the participant manages to cut the RED kite, he will gain an additional kite.
The only other way you will be given additional kite is if someone physical holds on to the thread or uses elements such as sticks, scissors, etc. to cut your kite.
If someone is found guilty of unfair practices within the completion, s/he will be disqualified with immediate effect.
The decision of the judges will be final and binding.

What is Red Bull Kite Fight ?
Red Bull Kite Fight is a competition to find the most talented kite fliers in India. The first edition of Red Bull Kite Fight took place in Ahmedabad in 2015 where the local boy Ankur Mehta took the top honours.
Is it an exhibition ?
No. Like we said, it’s a COMPETITION. How further your kite flies is inconsequential; what matters is that you cut others’ kites and survive till the end.
Where and when is it happening?
The city qualifiers will take place on the following dates :
Surat: January 9, 2016,
Ahmedabad and Vadodara: January 10, 2016.
The Final will be take place in Ahmedabad on January 13, 2016.
When should I reach the venue?

How many kites do I get?
Five. Survive the day!
What happens if someone who’s not a participant of Red Bull Kite Fight, cuts my kite?
Doesn’t matter if it’s a participant or a non-participant; once you’re kite is cut, it’s counted as gone. You don’t get an additional kite.
Can I play it safe and not cut anyone’s kite and just look to be defensive?
This is Kite Fight, not a Test Match. If anyone is found to be playing it safe and not being competitive, he stands the risk of either being disqualified or his kite being cut by the Red Bull Experts.
How dangerous can my ‘maanja' be?
It can be as dangerous as you want it to be as long as you can hold it in your hand.
Can I use Chinese ‘maanja'?
No, only Indian maanja is allowed.
Can I use my own kites?
No. To keep everyone at the same level, all the kites needs to be standard; hence, only Red Bull Kite Fight branded kites, provided by the organizers at the venue, are allowed.
What happens to the top three winners of each city?
The top three winners of each city will proceed to the final round on January 13.
What will the winner get?
Three things :
